What to plan for
Guest transport is the first item on the list, not the last. Agree with the venue how the crossing will work. A chartered boat on a set schedule is far calmer than leaving each guest to sort it out on the spot, especially at night and in formal clothes.
Cars stay on the mainland. There is no road access to the island. Guests leave the car in the private car parks around Av. Armando Lombardi, or arrive by subway at Jardim Oceânico station, less than a five-minute walk from the boarding deck.
Check the sunset time before fixing the ceremony hour. Outdoors and facing the water, late afternoon is the island's best light — and it shifts considerably between summer and winter.
Your suppliers cross by boat too. Cake, flowers, sound, staging: everything arrives over the water. That isn't a problem, but loading and unloading have to be agreed in advance. Ask every supplier about it before you book them.
Think about guests with reduced mobility. Boarding and landing happen on a deck. Tell the venue in advance so someone can assist those guests on arrival.
Have a covered plan B. The island's charm is the open sky; the trade-off is rain. Ask each venue what the indoor alternative is and how many people it holds.
